25th January 2025 - Visit to St Nicholas Lodge 4561 in Bristol

Our WM and accompanying intrepid travellers Alan Bridgen-Page, Ben Backer-Holst and Blaine Knight went down South on Saturday 25th January to visit St. Nicholas Lodge No. 4561 in Bristol and found a warm welcome from Worshipful Master Steve Pound and the Brethren.

Before entering the temple the Lodge’s Inner Guard challenged the Visitors, requesting that they whisper a secret word to prove their status as Entered Apprentice Freemasons. Our WM led by example and all were soon enlightened on this wonderful custom by the hospitable Inner Guard. The temple itself was an architectural masterpiece, with tall ceilings, an intriguing layout and historic paintings lining the walls. You could not fail to be impressed by its grandness and attention to detail.

The Lodge officers then entered with due ceremony, the Master wearing a cocked hat – a custom dating back to the sea captains who were Masters of their Lodges in the middle of the 18th century. The Visitors were soon treated to a different sort of Initiation than they were used to, with the enigmatic and captivating Bristol Masonic workings. Our Visitors were honoured to be asked to take part in the ceremony, performing a magnificent and unforgettable experience for the Candidate!

WM Steve was exemplary in his delivery, masterfully commanding his officers and obviously proud of every one of them, each stepping up to the mark in true Masonic fashion.

The Festive Board was a rambunctious affair with fantastic food, excellent company and with a couple of wins on the raffle it made for a great evening with some new friends. Be warned St Nicholas, we shall return!

THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL EVENING
