For the third year in a row, the HillTop Lodges opened the doors of the Stow on the Wold Freemason Centre on Church Street. The open day provided a unique opportunity for our local public to gain an insight into the history and practices of Freemasonry, dispelling myths and fostering understanding. Visitors were given guided tours of the Hall, learning about the symbolism and traditions associated with Freemasonry.

It is always a great pleasure to open our doors to the public and explain a little more about Freemasonry and to have the opportunity to explain our key messages of Individual Integrity, Friendship, Mutual Respect and a sense of Service. FASCINATING! BEAUTIFUL! SURPRISING IN A GOOD WAY! VERY IMPRESSIVE! VERY INTERESTING! are just some of the comments left in the visitors book.
The HillTop Open Day enabled people to find out more about our work within the local community and our social activities, with displays showing our 300+ years of history, to our work today including all of the numerous and recent charities and organisations that we have donated to, and showing people inside our Lodge room.
It is often said that we are a secretive, closed society. That notion of one of the worlds oldest social and charitable organisation is of course very outdated and the HillTop membership gave all our visitors an opportunity to find out more about Freemasonry, dispelling the myth that we are a secret organisation. All of our visitors were keen to learn that membership is open to all regardless of race, religion, background or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.
A big thank you to all of the HillTop members who assisted last Saturday and to those representing their specific charities and of course to the members of the Brycgstow Chapter - The Widows Sons - who added noise, colour and character to the day.
