1st May 2024 - Who would have thought it!! But donating used ink cartridges has raised The Prince of Wales Benevolent Fund the princely sum of £185.55 – and we are doing our bit to help the environment.

Our very own IT guru Bro Malcolm Wearing who owns and operates TechTonic IT in Bourton on the Water has denoted a recycle bin to allow all Freemasons and visitors to Stow on the Wold Freemason centre to drop off their used ink cartridges for recycling.

Did you know?

1.     More than 40 million ink cartridges are dumped in the UK alone each year.

2.     More than 1.1 billion ink jet cartridges are used annually around the world.  Laid end to end this would be 129 times as long as the Great Wall of China!

3.     If you dispose of your printer cartridges in the bin they will take 1000 years to decompose.

4.     Industry analysts estimate a spent cartridge can be reused or remanufactured up to 7 times and every cartridge remanufactured is one less item going directly to the landfill!!!

Bro. Malcolm sends our empty cartridges to www.emptiesplease.com who then clean, re chip and then refill them to be reintroduced into the general market and we earn ££ for our Charity Chest!  It couldn’t be simpler.

Wouldn’t it be great if others did the same.  If you are interested in this scheme, then please call Empties Please on 08448 797170 and or visit their website link above.

Well done to our Bro. Malcolm Wearing for coming up with the idea to have an ink cartridge recycle bin in our centre.  Our Charity Steward W. Bro Alan Page was delighted to receive the cheque at Techtonic.

Thanks to all the Brethren who have dropped off their cartridges, the bin will remain in the bar area for the foreseeable future, so please remember to 'donate' your empty cartridge for charity and help save the environment.  Thank you and well done AL & MAL.
